Our field program, Art & Culture took a lunch break, taking our group to a market. As the group stopped for lunch, the field program soon found out that this market was one of the biggest food markets in Kyoto. Our field program was soon given free time to wander the venders for lunch. I wandered with one of my hall mates, Steve and oceanography friend, Deanna.
As we had the chance to wander, I really wanted to buy some nice souvenirs in my time in Japan. I found a pair of chopsticks that I really liked that were painted like the scenery in Japan. After getting the chopsticks, Steve, Deanna, and I decided to go look and try some local food. I decided to try a baby octopus with its eggs still in it on a stick, while my friends that I was with got scallops and shrimp saying it tasted like chicken.
We continued wandering the streets and found some more local samples of tea from the tea store I had visited the previous day. I suggested we go in, and they followed my lead. They ended up loving the samples, and it was all because I had known it was a chain that loves passing out free samples. Steve and Deanna kept walking, wandering up and down the market, because it was very large. We did not make it very far before we realized we only had a certain amount of time before we had to get back to the bus. We then decided we would get some more food from a vendor. We watched as Steve got the food first, it was something fried and he was eating it with chop sticks. Then Deanna decided to get it as well, and said it was good, tasted like chicken. I gave in, and decided to get it, and yes it was good, did indeed taste like chicken.
Before we knew it, it was time to head back to the bus. #CatchmeinKyoto
