My group ( Callie, Lindsay, Kelsey, and Makenzie) started to wander around Ho Chi Mihn City, hoping to find food in town. We kept wandering, but all the restaurants appeared to be closed. Everyone in the group wondered why, but soon realized that it was because that it was a Vietnamese holiday today, we believe their New Year. We finally came across this little coffee shop that appeared to be open. We sat down and looked at the menu. Hoping this restaurant would have food; however, it turned out that they were only serving drinks. We sat down, at a table, looking at the drink menus, with the air conditioning blasting at us. Too hot to move, we decided to stay, and have a drink. Kelsey, Callie and I order iced Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk, something that I had wanted to try very badly when arriving in Vietnam. The waiter brought over our three iced coffees and regular coffees.
I brought the iced cup up to my mouth and it was pure heaven. Ice, coffee, and condensed milk! Later, after using the wifi for little, and enjoying the air conditioning, our group paid for our coffees and then I asked for some of the coffee from the shop to take back to the United States because I was so eager to share the delicious ground up coffee with my family! Kelsey gave in and also got some of coffee to take back to the states! As we paid, they gave us little via type coffee packets for free as complimentary for buying some of their coffee!
We continued exploring, walking the streets, admiring the street art, and all that was happening in the street that was blocked off. Soon after exploring for a while, we came across a small restaurant. They were serving food here, so we walked in, and sat down. We asked for menus, and they handed them to us. Lindsay had to look for a vegan option, and the rest of us looked through the menu. After carefully looking over the menu, Lindsay was only able to get broth. I on the other hand, decided to get a soup-like dish. It had dumplings and beef, and on the side it had a sauce that you could add to the soup and ginger sprouts. I ate the soup exactly how it was. It was delicious! The dumplings were a bit challenging to eat, but then when I was almost done with the bowl, I picked it up and slurped the remaining broth. Oh boy it was delicious! I got the check, and then walked back to the ship with my friends. We had an amazing day of trying different flavors.
