3 Exciting Nights in CLE

Updated: Mar 24, 2020

This past weekend was very busy for me. I had three back to back (to back) events. It all started this Friday.

Friday:

On Friday I decided to help out and volunteer at the Epilepsy Association Auto Show VIP Party. There I was put to work as helping out with the "Bucket of Boozes." To be honest, it was not actually a bucket, a crate or a chest might be a better description. I sat at the table with the Epilepsy Association's current intern, Sophia who was interning when I interned at the Epilepsy Association from June - October of 2019. Together the two of us were at the table and were selling tickets to people who wanted to be entered into the raffle. It was 1 ticket for $20.00 or 3 tickets for $50.00. We had a lot of people buying 3 tickets for $50.00 hoping that their ticket would get pulled. We even let them fold their ticket a certain way because we knew that some people get this rush and when it comes to their tickets, believing that folding the ticket gives it a little extra luck.

As the night went on it became more fun. Sitting around and talking Sophia. I got to know more about her dogs, her life, and what she wants to do after college, for she is also graduating in May. She informed me that there were only 50 tubs of the cotton candy and that I should get one when they came out before they ran out. The cotton candy was handspun, so I thought that was really cool. Also at the event was live music and different food stations. One food station was a mashed potato station. At the mashed potato station there were different kinds of mashed potatoes: mashed sweet potatoes, mashed red skin potatoes, and just regular mashed potatoes. I chose to get the mashed sweet potatoes and boy wore they good! In addition, they had a Chinese station, where you could get Chinese noodles in a carton. The Chinese noodles in a carton were really good, yet messy, and hard to eat with chopsticks. I walked around with my parents, and then went back to my second shift of selling tickets. Before I knew it the night was over, and my dad had won the "Bucket of Boozes."

One night down, two more to go!

Saturday:

On Saturday I attended Brite Winter, arriving there around 2:15 pm to help set up with my internship Drink Local. Drink Tap. We had a table located in the "Cleve Clothing Stage at the Living Room" which at the time I had no clue where it was. When I arrived, the whole Downtown/ Flats area was looking really cool, with all the Ingenuity artwork everywhere. As I continued to help set up, the other volunteers and I helped make the table look interactive with some games we had, but also at the same time separating the items from Uganda that we could sell.

As time passed, and people came up to the table, I asked people if they had heard of Drink Local. Drink Tap., and if they said no I would educate them, telling them what Drink Local. Drink Tap. does, providing clean drinking water for people in Uganda, but also educating people in the Cleveland area about water stewardship. Later on, that would make people want to learn more about the items that we were selling, such as the necklaces. They would ask what they were made out of, and I would say newspaper. Or people would say keep up the good work and then put a little donation in the donation box. Overall I felt that I did a good job educating people about Drink Local. Drink Tap. during my time helping out at Brite Winter.

Later that night, my family (my parents and one of my sisters) came to Brite Winter. At first I hard time meeting up with my family, I guess because we had no designated place where we would meet; however, eventually, we found a spot and met up. After we met up, we decided to get food. We headed straight to the Barrio truck where we waited in line for tacos!! After eating our tacos we were all cold. We started to wander, looking at the different bands that were playing. As we were looking at one of the bands that were playing closest to us, we saw this big fire pit. My sister and I got really close to it, to warm ourselves up. Our parents were a little bit away from it, not as close to the ashes and smoke. The fire pit turned out to be really crowded for other people who were cold as well! After standing by the fire pit for a little bit longer, we soon noticed that the upcoming band was wearing all white yet they seemed almost like the band Devo because they were wearing interesting outfits. After looking at the interesting band, my sister and I got in line to take a picture with the 'This is CLE' sign. We did not sit on it, but we stood. Then after that, we took a picture with the Brite Winter sign all lite up. We continued on walking, exploring all of the Brite Winter land, for in my mind when my supervisor of my internship told me about it I thought it was just a small parking lot space; yet, that was not the case. I took my parents to where the "Cleve Clothing Stage at the Living Room" was, where the Drink Local. Drink Tap. booth was, for my family was having a hard time finding it earlier. It was also hard to explain where it was, it was easier to show! After walking around and showing them the room, we explored outside, where there was going to be an ice burning at 8:00 pm. We got in line for perogies, and then when it got close to 8:00 pm my sister and I started to head over to the ice burning, to try and get a good spot! We had a good spot, and watched the ice burning! It was so cool, all the flames, and how fast the ice melted after the fire! We then ate our perogies and listening to the music. After the perogies, we headed to the car, freezing, and huddling, my teeth clattering, because I was so cold. We dropped my sister off at her apartment, and then headed back home! It was a really fun night, and I cannot wait for next year's Brite Winter, and more exciting events in Cleveland this year!

Sunday:

I got ready for heading downtown. Wearing my black Athleta work pants, and the shirt that I had gotten in Pittsburgh with my mom in January at No.14, with my black booties. I grabbed by green The North Face Jacket when my friend Sara came in her black Jeep at 4:30 pm. We drove downtown, listening to music and chatting, about her older sister's upcoming wedding, her job, and how we were excited about the musical that we were going to see ... Anastasia!

We got downtown, at 5:15 pm and tried to find the parking garage that my mom had gotten us a parking pass for. Once we did that, we found a parking spot. We then decided to walk to Yours Truly, for Google Maps said it was only about a 5-minute walk. Once we saw it, I ended the directions. I saw the big Playhouse Square Sign and the chandelier that hangs near the area; it turns out it is the world's largest outdoor chandelier! We entered the at around 5:20 pm Yours Truly, with three other couples coming in after us; yet, we did not get our food until 6:15 pm no joke. We rushed eating our food, the waitress gave us half off because we were the last ones to get our food. We paid, and then hurried to the Connor Palace, Playhouse Square. Before entering the theater I handed Sara her ticket, for I received the tickets as a Christmas present! We both got our tickets scanned, we grabbed the musical booklet, and then with limited time to find our seats, I found a person in the red jackets who would know where our seats are. We followed them, and found our seats! There were two empty seats near the beginning and Sara and I thought that maybe no one would show up; however, two ladies came during the opening scene!

Overall, I thought Anastasia was amazing, both as a movie and as a musical! The music in the musical was amazing, the girl had an amazing voice and definitely sounded like Anya/ Anastasia. The man playing Dimitri definitely had a very similar voice as Dimitri in the movie. The cast was amazing, everything was amazing! If you have not seen Anastasia yet, I would add it to a musical that you MUST see!
